Migrating to Win2K Server

Todd,

I did the same thing Jim mentioned - had a consultant work with me to
upgrade all ws's and servers to W2K. Learned a lot. We upgraded from NT40
to W2K rather than starting with a fresh install of W2K. We lost some
security settings all over the server, and needed to redo those.

After the upgrade, the Vantage print directory needed security settings
loosened (error messages when printing). Security on one other Vantage
directory (I forget which one - it produced an error message) had to be
loosened. After that we were rolling. Then I set up the security as
recommended in the Epicor "Securing Vantage Files with NT Security" document
on their web site (if you don't have that, I can email it to you). No other
problems since then.

PS - If you upgrade ws's (rather than fresh installs), UNINSTALL your
antivirus software. Our McAfee corrupted the registry on some of our ws's
during the process.

Ours went very smooth, "no gotchas". Active directory in 2000 makes it
easy. Have fun, and I would recommend that you do the work and have the
consultant help you. You'll learn much more about your own system that way.
Plus its better than setting around and watching.

I think, if all is ready by then, we will be migrating to Windows 2000
Server (from NT 4.0) this coming weekend. Are there any significant
"gotchas" for Vantage? Security settings or share issues maybe? I am
having a consultant tackle the project because it also involves our SBS 4.5
(Nt 4.0) PDC, demoting the Vantage NT 4.0 server from BDC, migrating
Exchange to 2000 and setting up Active Directory. Way beyond my skill set.
But if there is anything Vantage related I can relay to him it would be much
appreciated.

Thanks,
