Migrating APM to APR or Docstar?

Hello,

We currently use APM. Going towards Kinetic we want to change it with APR. I saw a small video about it and loved the possibilities.
But I am a bit confused.
I saw a video about Docstar ECM as well and it looked similar as if APR was part of it…is it the case?

To use APR do I need Docstar? or APR can be used as is? What advantages are there for using Docstar? vs just APR ?

Thanks
Pierre

The only item that requires DocStar is the Take/(Put?) commands. If you want to automatically attach a terms and conditions document or a drawing with an email for example, then that document has to be in DocStar. Conversely, you can save a document into DocStar at print time. Otherwise, DocStar is not required - unless something has changed.

^- Correct. APR is independant of ECM, but two commands/widgets for APR are enabled when you have ECM. These are the Get/Put Documents widgets that allow for what @Mark_Wonsil described.

I’ve done the APM to ECM conversion including AP Automation as well as migrating ALL of my APM content using Epicor’s Professional Services. Let me know if you want to discuss it in more detail.

We’ve got APR without Docstar, and use it to brand the various documents we generate based on business units. It also drives invoicing (electronic vs paper, Amazon, etc…). You can do it all, except attachments (like Mike and Mark mentioned).

Epicor crippled APR to require Docstar if you want to use the APR workflow widgets to attach files (like drawings to jobs), but you could develop a way around it not having those widgets. It’s a shame since it feels so cheap to do that, on Epicor’s part.

Depending on which level of Docstar, there’s a ton of capability there, but it was significantly more expensive for the number of seats we have. And a big learning curve and time spent training the OCR. Very capable, though!

This takes a lot of continual effort and time to get 100% return on investment.
