I am a fairly new Epicor Admin and we are running into an issue while not devastating is a bit of an annoyance.
.
When we launch Epicor Kinetic we choose the “Kinetic” Menu style and the home page displays as such. However once we try to click on a child menu item such as “Production Management>Engineering>Setup>Role Code” it will open in the classic style instead of the kinetic. It gives us the option to try the new kinetic style which brings up the style we want but it does not default to it after.
I have found the options to change this (I believe) in the menu maintenance screen however the changes are grayed out and we cannot make changes even via the admin account. Any Advice?
Also what is the difference between menu maintenance under security maintenance and menu maintenance under system maintenance?
If you want to make a change to a “base” menu… you have to first copy the menu to your company (in the Actions Menu). This will give you an editable version and will deactivate the original “base” menu.
Once you’re done editing it. You can save. If you’re running in your desktop client, you’ll have to close and re-open the client for the change to take place.
No difference… just two different paths to the same place. Just like there are a ton of different “Part Trackers” if you search the menu. The problem is, if you ever customize a form… you have to apply that customization to EACH menu path. So, if you want to make a customization for Part Tracker… you would have to copy each of the Part Tracker menus to your company and apply the customization to each one. Its a pain.
This is purposefully designed that way, however. For example, you could apply a customization to "Part Tracker (for example) that provides very high level information… and ONLY apply it to the menu path under the “Executive Analysis” menu. That way… all other paths to “Part Tracker” shows basic information, but anyone with security access to the “Executive Part Tracker” would see more information.
Not sure if this is true or not or will make a difference in your “greyed out” comment, but open menu maintenance from the classic client, not from the web.
The form to use won’t hold the changes once we make them on the child page and if we try to make the change on the parent tier (production management) it is greyed out.
So I got it to work on the child level, but its still greyed out on the root folder level.
Is there anyway to do it from there or are we just going to have to go through and do each menu one by one?
Yeah, you do it one by one from what I understand, but honestly @BlockhouseIT … I started on 11.1.somehting and at that time you COULD set it at the parent level. Then they went all over the place and honestly I don’t even know anymore.
What I do know is that setting it at the child level seems to always work.
I would submit a ticket to epiccare and let them explain it and then post back to us if you get a good answer.
I ran into a similar problem recently. Changing ‘kinetic enabled’ from the web client modified other fields. In my case for a specific menu, the url was deleted any time a menu was updated in any way from the web client or kinetic. Support was upset that we’d copied menus to our company and applied our own security, suggested we revert everything to default, and use the canned security groups to solve the problem. Nah.
Normally when kinetic or web client is broken we can fall back on classic, but not this time. It’s impossible to do some menu maintenance things from classic. DMT can’t update these things because BAQ doesn’t return 40% of menu fields, so neither does DMT. I was stuck hacking from REST. I pushed all of the necessary values straight from the Swagger UI, and made a note to future me to never open menu maintenance from the web client or kinetic until the next major update.
Same thing John… it’s like why are you burdening us make, move, sellers with this cause y’all re-did menu maintenance and menu security, and kinetic forms to use 50 times.
If you want it to open in Kinetic only, you can create the new menu item as a Kinetic App under Program Type
Our company is going strictly Kinetic, so we’re creating new menu items this way.
