Menu user Security

Hi Charles,
Thanks for your help :-)

Being in a small company limits my access to other IT people, so I
appreciate having people to talk to.

The security and groups were already being used and the system is
live, but not being fully utilized so far.

Will it break any customizations if I delete groups and create new
ones? I have not yet deployed any customizations, but I noticed in
some of the security boxes there were ASCII looking characters on the
allow side items that had been secured.

Thanks again and to anyone who is willing to to share security
strategy I would appreciate input.

Hello,

I am new to the list and a new Vanatge user, so please bear with me if
I ask something obvious ;-) I am setting up security which was
previously set up before I came.

There is a group of users who need access to another company, but we
do not want them to have access to everything in that company.
Currently most things are set up to allow all with a few exceptions. I
cannot, that I can tell, specify that these users have access to only
certain programs/menus without it affecting everyone else as well,
because allow all is checked on the menu security. Is that correct, or
is there something I am missing here?
You are correct. Allow all means exactly that. Security in Vantage is by
Security Code and not menu option, consequently there may be several menu
options with the same security code. I would never advise using allow all
for anything. I have a security group that has everyone in the company in
it and use that group instead. This gives me more flexibility in setting up
security. It also allows me to remove someone from that group that I want
to exclude. Also, you can set security to be company specific: use the
"Current Company" checkbox on the security tab.

Subject: [Vantage] Menu user Security
