Manager account

On our system, the manager username and password is also used in the
System Agent Manager too....

Remember also that if you are using ServiceConnect and this is
configured to
use the manager account, you will cause it stop stop working if the
manager
account is removed of the password is changed. In this instance you
would
need to re-import all the web-services this time with the new account
details...

Just something else to bare in mind...

Thanks,

Thanks for this note and the other notes.

I came across the printing issue early on because straight out of the
installation (did it myself), Vantage 8 can't print until you set up
the system agent. Initially I used my account but then changed it to
a generic account so as to minimize issues like you describe (me
changing my password).

Hey folks, I've recently started working with Vantage and Progress. We
are currently on Vantage 6 but in a month we will go live on Vantage
8.3.405A as well as AQM.

I was able to do the conversion from 6 to 8 myself as well as the AQM
integration, so sufficie it to say I've learned a lot in my short time
here and cursed the manual writters many times.

During some questions about Vantage exporting data for use with AQM
support asked me which account I was exporting BAQs, I told him my own
account because prior to me the manager account was deleted for
security reasons. Personally I would have handled that account
differently, but what is done is done.

My question is: how does the deletion of the manager account impact me?
I would never think to delete the administrator account from active
directory, but the deletion of the manager account doesn't seem to have
had any impact so far.

Any input/thoughts?

thank you

Paul
I don't think deleting the manager account should have any impact. I have never found anything in Vantage that is dependent upon that account. However, we do not have AQM so I can't answer for that module. We have other 3rd party modules and they are not dependent upon the manager account at all. If your conversion went well and you have not found any problems then I would say you are in good shape.

Be sure that there is at least one user that has full rights (i.e. security
manager) or there could be areas of the software which no one would be able
to access. In my case I've changed the password and disabled the account
because the password was leaked to many users who did not need full access.
Over the years I've submitted my db to Epicor for various reasons and they
always call wanting the MANAGER password. And I have to give them mine
which of course is one of the two security managers.

Paul,

Be aware of this note buried in the documentation:
-------------------------
When moving a database or changing the "manager" password on a
specific database, please remember to update the System Agent

If the system "manager' login ID is going to be disabled, you will
need to create a "print ID" to use in its place.
-------------------------------------------
We fell into this trap because I removed "security" capability from
Manager. Several of our processes stopped working and Global Alerts
stopped functioning.
It took a while for support to track this one down.

We set up a special separate user account just for system agent as this
kept happening to us.
