Make-Direct checkbox not updating on part number change (Sales Order Entry - when generated from quote)

Hi all,

New to the forum here. We used to have an Epicor consultant where I could take my questions, but we are currently between consultants. We are facing a minor issue where part settings aren’t correctly driving demand in one situation. I am trying to understand if this is a user error, implementation error, or an Epicor bug… and if there is a fix… I did try searching the web and the forums, but I did not find this issue being discussed.

In normal operation, when adding a part to a sales order (manually adding the part), Epicor correctly determines if a part should come from inventory or be set to make-direct when added to the sales order based on the part master settings. Subsequent changes to the part number on that line will result in the Make-Direct checkbox on the release tab being updated appropriately. The issue I see arises when a part number on a sales order that was generated from a quotation is subsequently changed. If the part was pulled in from a quote, and for one reason or another, there is a need to change the part number on that line, the following two things seem to happen:

  • The line maintains its link to the related quotation.
  • The release tab maintains the status of the Make-Direct checkbox as it was defined by the original part that was pulled in from the quotation.

It’s not like this is happening every day, but it has bit us several times. Luckily, I have a good planner who catches most of the issues based on MRP job driving a non-stock manufactured part to inventory, or an unfirm job being generated that is feeding a sales order.

I really want EPICOR to drive the correct settings in this scenario. We have order entry clerks in both India and Serbia who handle a good portion of our order entry as well as change orders. If there is no fix (short of deleting/closing the line, and making a new line), then that will introduce additional complexity at the order entry level that that I would prefer to avoid.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts or require any additional information!

Thanks, Dale.

It’s getting fixed in 2024.1, finally! Reported it years ago.
