I believe the Love Bug has not hit the EGroup. I received an email
from Dan Clifton with a subject of fwd joke. This is the same subject
that recently hit our company. Do not open any mail with a subject of
fwd joke.

We had an love bug infestion a couple of weeks ago. I believe it put
some VBS file in our Vantage directory. I do a search on our Vantage
directory and find 3 VBS files that I do not believe should be there.
Would somebody do a search of their Vantage directory and search for
*.vbs files and let me know if you find any. I believe this may be
what is causing us all kinds of problems recently.
Waiting to hear
Chuck
WE had gotten one of these too. We had the LINKS.VBS virus.

haven't encountered any others

No VBS files in my vantage derectory, so you probably do have a problem.

They may have originated as .jpg files. One of the results of Love bug
infection is renaming all .jpg files (and other images like .gif?) to add
.vbs and replacing the content with the virus script. Unsuspecting users
try to access the image and activate the virus - again. I counted no .jpg
files in my Vantage directory tree, 7 .gif file (under web-tracker/images)
and 175 .bmp files.

Even this week, many months later we are still tracking down and cleaning
Love remnants in various renamed files and registry settings. The Symantec
Anti-Virus site has a FixLove.exe routine to clean infected systems as well
as detailed manual instructions. They are at:

Did you experience any problems with corrupt dll files because of this. We
think our problem with the document association has to do with this, but
cannot figure out a fix.

Thanks everyone for your quick response. I hope to return the favor
someday. We did have some jpg files that had the vbs attached to them.

We, too had the Love Bug infestation months and months ago. But I find no
