HOW TO SETUP THE PROGRESS ClientTimeOut

With Progress 9.1D03, Progress has made available a timeout feature.

To implement the feature the following lines must be added to the Startup
registry key on the server. This process applies to all clients connected to
the database.

Where 'n' is the number of minutes after which the user will be disconnected
if there is no activity. Again, this is a server parameter so all users will
be affected by this setting.

This ClientTimeOut parameter can be put into the registry of the following
key, by default this key will not exist so will need to be created.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PSC\PROGRESS\9.1D\STARTUP

Once you open the Startup Key, from the top select EDIT Ã NEW Ã STRING. The
string name is called "ClientTimeOut" in the value field put in how many
minutes till disconnection.

Once the changes have been made you will need to reboot the server for
progress to reread the registry on startup of the adminservice.

I am curious about setting up some sort of log out feature in vantage for
inactivity at the users desktop.
I have guys that get into vantage when they show up to work, then go out on
the floor and are out there 90% of the day
Then I am getting other users coming in at 8am and getting maximum number of
users exceeded errors!

Also how does this effect my data collection pc's?

I am on vantage 5.2.322
Thank you!

Which utility do you use?

It comes standard with vantage - not sure of the technical name. It just
requires some setting to be modified on the server, of course I can't
remember which and can't find the instructions 9we are in process of moving
into a new building and I can't find anything!)

It's been discussed on this list many times - Someone even posted
instruction on this list a couple months ago, I believe. You could try
searching the archives of this list or calling vantage support - they'll be
able to help you.

Sarah,

I am in 6.1. Do you have more information on that progress utility? I would
like to implement it for my TS users. Thank you!
