Lobby for Votes?

So… I went to a EUG yesterday and while in the meeting a few ideas were thrown around and I wanted to make sure that they got added to the ideas portal. I also thought I’d post them here because I’m not sure how often everyone here reviews the ideas.

Idea #1: Explorer View for BAQ’s : Include an Explorer view for BAQ’s. It would give the BAQ designers the ability to see if a sub-BAQ is used in a dashboard (through another BAQ)

Item #2: Configuration Upgrade Dashboard include recent activity date : Include the recent activity date in the configuration upgrade dashboard, it would give sys admins the ability to quickly identify customizations that are good candidates for removal.

Thanks,
Max

As for #2, would having telemetry across ALL commands, built-in or custom be useful? There may already be an idea for that.

For several years, I have yearned for an Instance Explorer - completely web-based so it works for us on-premies as well as cloud users. It would display everything about an instance:

  • Version
  • Companies/Sites
  • Licenses and current Usage
  • All Settings with export capability and change history tracking, including current Next Sequence values
  • Security Setup: Groups, Security IDs, Menu/Service/Field and where they are attached
  • Dashboards
  • UD Maps
  • Task Agent Browser: History of Tasks/Scheduled and Current Running; Kill orphaned tasks
  • All Customizations including
    – UD Fields (CHARACTER##, NUMBER##, etc. or _c) and their utilization
    – Screen Customizations: both classic and Kinetic
    – Directives: Data and Method, Forms
    – Functions
    – BAQs (your Idea #1 is this)
    – Reports (RDD, BAQ, SSRS, Crystal)
    – Electronic Interfaces (with ability to deploy from GitHub)
    – Product/Inspect Configurators
    – UD Codes
    – Localizations
    – Quick Searches and locations

This would be a tool to observe current state of an instance and not to promote the poor practice of using the instance as a repository for customizations/settings. I still want that stored outside the instance so new instances can be spun up for recovery, testing, or development. It would be great for admins, consultants, and even Epicor Support would find it useful to do a dump of the current state of the instance for various purposes.

I call this idea the Instance Explorer, but it could easily be called Petfinder. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
