Linking sales orders to jobs

If the part is in the part file you may use the default warehouse and bin
possibly. Just a heads up but also investigate the PlantWhse table OnHandQty
which is the sum of the bins. I forget which version things moved around a
little as vantage added multi plant cababilities but anyway it did help in
some report builder reports. Your bible report my need some redesigning to
take advantage of the database table changes.

Yes, but not in an existing RB report that we use as the bible of open sales
orders. We use warehouse to separate our plants.

In theory you don't need to see the warehouse because your linked to the job
which is going to fill the order. Can't you right click on the sales order
line and see part tracker, warehouse, etc...???

We are on Vantage 4.0 (migrating to 5.1 on May 3). We want to start linking
sales orders to jobs. I lose my warehouse visibility when doing this on the
sales order release and in the JobProd table. Does anyone know why this
would happen ? My sales order list gears off of the warehouse code to
separate our 3 plants' sales order lists. When we link the sales order to
the job (to show scheduled jobs on the sales order list->to help our
scheduler) these order releases do not appear. Does anyone else have this
issue?

If you link the Sales Order to a Job Order, demand goes directly to the manufacturing plant, it does not pass thru a warehouse. This is the logic of the system. If the item is in the Part Master, you can still ship it out of a warehouse location during Customer Shipment entry, but you'll have to do a lot more work to properly close the linked Job Order.

You can print the warehouse in you "bible of open sales orders" by linking the part number to the primary warehouse defined in your Part Master (assuming that is located in the plant where it is made). That way, regardless of whether the Sales Order is pulled from stock or made direct, the manufacturing warehouse location is printed.

When moving forward to 5.1, you may want to consider defining your plants separately. I don't know about 4.0 but 5.1 does this quite neatly. Product Groups are assigned to Plants so Vantage knows where the default manufacturing location is. You can use this information in your report so you know where an item is made. Parts can be located in various warehouses which are defined separately per plant. You can tell Vantage to pull the material from a local warehouse if you stock an item in more than one plant.
