Linking in Crystal 8.5

Shirley is right... when is she not? I linked the comments field on the RMA
exactly as described below. But I added this to the Vantage.ini to
automatically open a connection to the database.

VantageODBCServer=(connection name)
VantageODBCDbse=(DB Name)
VantageODBCUser=(ODBC username)
VantageODBCpasswd=(ODBC user password)

When linking two different field types in crystal ie (numeric - alpha)
(alpha - numeric), create a calculated field to convert to the desired
data type. TOTEXT(NUMERIC FIELD) or TONUMBER(ALPHA FIELD). If I recall
correctly it seems to work best when you do your conversion in the
master report to the sub report. Sub report has numeric data in alpha
field. Corresponding field in master report is numeric. In master
report convert your numeric data to alpha using TOTEXT( NUMERIC MASTER
REPORT FIELD) then use the converted field in your link to the sub
report.

Hello Richard,

I did this a few years ago trying to create my own traveler, but gave up
on
the project because I could figure out how to distribute the report
containing 2 different database. As I recall I created a subreport
containing the ODBC table (use a a DSN that does not require a password,
search on e-portal for ODBC). I link the subreport using a parameter
field.
You may need to change a field type i.e Totext(). It was a while back,
and
as I recalled it required a fair amount of trail and swear.

Good Luck!

Can any Crystal expert help here.......
I want to amend our version of the Crystal RMA form because (as usual)
the
data included in the available .dbf files is lacking.
Using ODBC I want to link to the actual Vantage database RMADtl line to
pick
up the Notes field and print it on the document.
I add the database table to the report giving it an alias of
RMADtl_Database.
So far so good.
I link to the database file using the RMANO from the rmahead.dbf and the
RMALINE from the rmadtl.dbf.

I get a warning that the link may not be successful due to different
field
types on the link fields, i.e. the .dbf fields are 'string' whilst the
database fields are 'number'

The warning is correct, the link isn't successful! No data is retrieved
when
I run the form.
Question is, how can I get this to work?
All/any advice gratefully received

We're running 6.0 and Crystal 8.5

Richard
