Kinetic screens excessively slow in SmartClient

Is anyone else seeing excessively slow load times (3+ minutes) for Kinetic screens when using the SmartClient? There are no speed issues with Classic screens. We’ve submitted a support ticket with videos of how slow the loads are, but they say they cannot replicate the problem. We’ve already tried clearing the client cache, reviewing port usage and exclusions and implemented the smart client best practices with no improvement. As usual they suggested going to the browser version, but that is not a viable solution for us because the security in the browser keeps throwing access errors which they’ve issued PRB to resolve.

If you’ve experienced this issue and were able to resolve issues, please let us know what you did.

Thanks

If possible I’d be trying the direct browser version of the Kinetic UI rather than going through the smart client. If your using mixed mode (Classic and Kinetic UI), I appreciate that’s not practical.

Smart client Kinetic UI is slower. At Insights this year they were beating into our heads to use the web browser --Edge or Chrome-- for Kinetic it’s those of us stuck in mixed-mode that are caught in the middle.

Yes but they haven’t made this practical - not all screens are available or usable in kinetic yet. But if your user has a browser and a client open, it consumes 2 licenses. On top of that, they haven’t made it practical to deploy custom reports and dashboards in kinetic. Even my users who I WANT to enable 100% in the browser I can’t, unless I am willing to create a separate menu item for every single custom report and custom dashboard for the kinetic app version of that element, which is simply absurd.

Correct, but not THAT slow.

Something is definitely wrong.

But to respond to the original question, what binding do you have in your config file? We solved a lot of problems by moving from net tcp to https.

What do you mean by “binding”? I didn’t see anything that stated “binding”. All the URLs are already https as we are a Cloud customer on Epicor’s government server.

Nvm didn’t realize you were cloud.

I have the exact same problem here. Have you found out the reason why? I’ve been searching for 2 days now.

We use Sophos for our AV and Support referred us KB0129749 – Sophos Intercept 2023.1.1.6 Degrades Performance after Windows Updates. At the time, the only option in the KB was to roll back Sophos to an earlier version which our IT department did not agree with due to security requirements so we’ve just gone back to Classic on everything. I just checked the KB again and it has been updated since Support referenced it, so we are going to have IT look at the other options.

Yes they have been pushing the Web Browser instead of Smart Client, and we all would LOVE to use it, however, remains buggy so end up always falling back to Smart Client and even Classic. Even support often says “Have you tried it in the Classic Screen?” as they struggle with the same issues we do.
If it was reliable, we would adopt it across the board, but plain fact has been for a year and a half it is not. And the Smart Client also has issues, but yes, to answer the question, the Smart Client is slower, but usually works best functionality wise.

My 2 cents.

We’re having the same issues so we’re still 90% Classic right now.

We are using Kinetic, but the Client Version were possible.
I only drop to Classic for things that don’t work in Kinetic screens, and some tools.
I would love to trust them but keep finding things that don’t work in the new tools etc.
They will get there I am sure, just would like to have ONE version that worked all the time. Classic is still that so I can see why you still use it. I just want the users here, as is their first time using a modern ERP system, to start out with the Kinetic UX since that is the direction forward.

Just as an additional resource, they have a bunch of links in this Help Document to address some performance issues that you should review if not already done the usual, Exclusion in AV scanning, etc.(See below)

Our issue is really network related, however, since we are Cloud based, I had to copy the ‘saas5300.sysconfig’ file to ‘default.sysconfig’ then I can run the “Epicor64.exe” file which one would think would be a faster client?
I do see it launches and runs, however, the local “Epicor Session Manager” is still 32Bit.

Someone could try the 64Bit exe file and see if that helps?

I also tried using GPU instead of CPU in Affinity settings, with no real increase.

I had an issue with DMT Running slow on large uploads and crashed about every 3K-4K records, then read about how the 32Bit DMT was under a Windows Limitation of 2-4GB Memory limit where the 64Bit version has essential no limits. I was running the 32Bit DMT because, well because nothing in the client ever worked in 64Bit land it seemed, lol
Now running the 64Bit version, and adding memreduct.exe app, DMT does not crash now.

Here is the link to Kinetic Performance issue resolution for Client installs if it helps someone.

I know this is an old post, but want to respond the original question.

Yes we are having issues with the smart client Kinetic UI. We figure it out that Kinetic UI is working perfectly if the computer running the smart client does not have our Antivirus installed. We are using Sophos. Disabling Sophos is not enoguh, Sophos needs to be unistalled and all its references/files removed.

We found that there is some sort of issue between the EOBrowser (kinetic UI ebeded browser) and Sophos.

I found this in sophos portal but it seems not to be working for us.

If you manage to get this fixed, please share your solultion with us!!!

Cisco AMP did not appreciate the EOBrowser either we had to create exclusions
