Kinetic: Hide Blue/Side Menu Items for Certain Users

All,

I cannot find any way (a better, complete way) to limit access to the following buttons for some users, in the blue-side bar Main Navigation Strip on the left-side of all Kinetic Web-screens.

  • Data Discovery
  • Collaborate

There is nothing apparent to do this. We can turn off Enterprise-search per user, but nothing else. If this is a custom layer modification - where do we start with regard to the nav-bar modification as there is no direct link to application studio here.

It looks as though is we disallow SEC613 this restricts Data Discovery, we can’t find one for Collaborate users -it’s a workaround for Data Discovery.

Any help, TIA,

Joe

We don’t have Collaborate, so I can’t speak to that. But if it is in the same boat as EDD, it would be nice to have the “Allow Access” toggle on individual user accounts as we do for Enterprise Search.

I entered an idea a year ago to get this for EDD.

Idea: KIN-I-3818: User Permission to access Data Discovery

This is a nice find! I’ll have to test that out as a work around!

Update: All, I’ve been desperate to find a solution to this and I have a workaround now; it may be useful to any of you that have the same need to hide icons on the blue menu nav.

You can change launch modes in launchmodes.jsonc related to switches that provide shell restrictions (MES/DC switches | &mode=mes | etc.) You can find this json file in each environment: MAINSERVER\Epicor\inetpub\wwwroot\ENVIRONMENT\Server\Apps\MetaUI\Shared

From there, edit the file with a text editor.

Note: You will have to run conversation 191 and not be logged in with an account with security manager privileges to see the effect.

This effectively solves the issue for us (not fully ideal, but it works in the short term). You can set a shortcut to go directly to this URL for your MES users and restrict what appears in the Nav from the URL switch that pulls the restrictions from the .jsonc file.

I need to add that if you are using a custom layout for your DC/MES screen, like us, you will need to change the menu item in the .jsonc file to match your custom layout or else you will not see the changes.

So I took a different approach and used a bpm. Here is the rough outline in this post

Hopefully it would work for collaborate as well. You may need to find the related bpm me thinks
