Job Closing

I was wondering if anybody had a progress program or macro which
facilitates closing of jobs. Ideally it would read a text file or
file of some format containing job numbers. These job numbers would
be marked complete and closed with the appropriate dates in one mass
closure. Getting the selected jobs we want to close into a separate
file is the easy part, closing hundreds of jobs one at a time is a
waste of time. Any ideas?

Thanks

Keith
I think this will do the trick for you. This is for Vantage 5.1

If you go to http://www.ktcorp.com/vantage/jobclose/ you will find a screen
shot, Winbatch Script and an Access database.
You will need to download Winbatch from www.winbatch.com

Steps to run,
Replace the linked jobhead table with a table or query with the jobs you
want closed.
Open the Access form FORM1 (The first job in your list should appear in the
text box, place the focus on that text box)
Open the Job Closing screen in Vantage.
Open the Wil script and change the counter variable to the number of jobs
you are closing
Run the Wil Script.

The script will:
1)Copy the job number from Access 2000 into the windows clipboard.
2)Paste the job number from the clipboard into the lookup screen in Vantage
3)Mark the job complete
4)Answer Yes if the qty complete is less then the production qty
5)Mark the job closed
6)Close the screen
7)Return to Access 2000
8)Start the loop over

I hope this helps. Winbatch is very easy to use. One of the best help
packages I have ever used. Their website is packed with allot of great
examples. I am sure it will need some tweaking but I think you will get the
idea. There are allot of things you can do to customize the program. If
you have any questions feel free to contact me.

What is the best process for Job Closing?

We complete the jobs in the Job Closing module the day they ship,
but we do not close the jobs right away because I was told we can no
longer apply costs (ie freight, outside process etc) to it once it
is closed.

Can I reopen the jobs to do this? What is the best process?

Thanks!
Ben
This would depend on a few other things... you can reopen a job It mostly depends on if you put items to storage or ship from manufacturing... standard costing or actual...

Is there a way to find out who closed a job?

If not, is there something in the logs that can track that?

Thanks,
Jasper

Jasper-

If you look in the change log for a particular job it will tell you what
user ID closed the job.

In order for it to be in the change log, I must first set up the change log. Which table should I be checking on and which fields?

Thanks,
Jasper
