One some (maybe many) screens, the text for the screen in the menu (or search) is different from the title of the windows that opens for that screen.
For example, the menu item that says “Part” opens a window that says “Part Maintenance”. In general, it seems that the text that is displayed in the menu or search is based on what is entered in Menu Maintenance whereas the title for the screen is either set internally or somewhere (such as dashboards) based on what the user enters. This can be confusing and we are trying to identify these, however with almost 3,000 total menu items I am looking for a faster way then manually opening every menu item and seeing and manually typing the result of the window title that comes up.
(and to note, it seems that the Ice.Menu table only contains what is set in Menu Maintenance, so it does not document the title of the corresponding screen. I’m trying a full text search of the entire database for a particular screen title that is hopefully fairly unique to see if it can be found in any table, but I am hoping that there is a better and quicker way.)
Great question, but I don’t believe that there is a consistent place to look for such things. ALSO keep in mind that with the conversion to the new Kinetic UI, this all changes, so I would not put too much effort into figuring out and fixing the old screens.
FYI… this is a common complaint even here internally at Epicor, and something that has been on the radar to fix along with many other priority 3-4 items that are just not “important enough” to get fixed compared to other things. I have never liked that I had to tell the user to go into “BLABLA Maintenance” only to be told they couldn’t find that on the menu.
GOOD NEWS: I just looked at the Part program in Kinetic… It is called Part/Parts in both the menu and the screen.
I’ve also been told in the past not to rename the items in Menu Maintenance, since updating to a new version would overwrite all your hard work. Have not verified that, though…
