Inventory Roll forward

Yeah but a lot of them are moving from on inventory account to another.
I am trying to find all the first into our inventory and the final
disposition out of inventory.

Thanks,

We need to list scrap costs from MES/End Activity transactions and DMR-Reject transactions.

Where can we find these transactions?
Are there standard reports available?
Does anyone have any internally generated scrap reports that they would be willing to share?

Thanks in advance.

LeSueur Inc.
They are stored in the PartTran table.

Sorry I cannot help you with the other 2 questions because I have not needed to report that data since we are not yet fully live everywhere.

The DMR reject transactions to go PartTran, but the MES End Activity
"scrap" transactions don't generate a PartTran record.

Can anyone else elaborate on how they are creating their scrap reports?

We have a report that shows Clock in date, Job number, Labor Quantity, Labor
Hours, Scrap quantity, Rework Quantity, Scrap hours (which is the labor
hours divided by the result of (Labor Quantity+Scrap Quantity+Rework
Quantity)/Scrap Quantity), Job department, Labor rate, Labor Dollars, and
Employee number. The report asks for a starting and ending date when it is
run.

Even Job Operation inspection fail/DMR disposition results end up in LaborDtl.

Only pure Material inspect/fail/DMR/rejects (from PO receipt or a Job component Material or inspection of inventory) results in a PartTran record.

In the past we used BAQ to run the reports for the DMR-REJ tran type,
but wanted to bring in the cause code which is in the INS-DMR
transaction.

We'd run both reports, enter a formula to get a total, and then vlookup
to link to the cause code.

Now we have a person who writes a report that pulls the information into
Access style reports, but they are using the same data from the Vantage
database.

Epicor's stance has been , for as long as I can remember, that there is
no report to calculate the value of scrap that is reported in MES
because every site calculate this value differently.

I guess they are right, in a way, but it would have been nice to provide
a standard report that could be used as a basis.

With that said, if you're looking for just quantities then LaborDtl will
have this information. If you want to assign a dollar value, then it
gets trickier. How will you value this scrap? Is it scrap quantity
multiplied by standard cost? If yes, then you can just bring in
PartCost. If you want actual cost then that is a whole different ball
game.

We use actual cost and were force to process this in an Access database
outside of Vantage.

So if you cost the scrap, you are also reducing the cost of the good
parts? Why not pass the scrap through as a nonconforming and let DMR
handle the scrap. You get the costing that way.

Good point.

We thought of this but didn't want to deal with the overhead of handling
all scrap this way. For us, there is a acceptable level of scrap and
we'd rather have it simply recorded in MES.

Without doing anything, the "cost" of in-process scrap is lumped into
Manufacturing Job Variance. My system calculates the actually value of
scrap and then Finance does a journal entry to move this cost from
Manufacturing Job Variance to Scrap each month.

My two cents...

It has been an ongoing subject since we started our implementation of Vantage a little more than 3 years ago. You can view Scrap as a Cost of Manufacturing AND a Cost of Poor Quality. If the total Scrap for an operation is less than planned, the value of it is considered a cost of manufacturing. However, if the quantity exceeds the plan, then the value is considered a Cost of Poor Quality. The caveat is that you have to have good planned scrap values. We review Planned Scrap values quarterly to keep in check that we are not planning too much but planning enough for natural maunfacturing scrap occurances.

The struggle for us is the fact that the ONLY PLACE to get ACTUAL SCRAP is LaborDtl. We have tried for three years to get Epicor to "enhance" the software to store the total scrap qty at the JobOper. At least then...you could run comparisons of the data at the JobOper level. Otherwise you have to export your entire LaborDtl table; which in our case is HUGE for just one month.

Thanks
Patty Buechler
