if you print preview the stock status report you can go to your C drive
under Epicor/mfgwrk and it should be the last file starting with rpt. you
should open this with excel...I find it best to open excel first then open
the file from excel.

Subject: [Vantage] Inventory Report for Year End

Hello!

I need to export our year end inventory figures to Excel. I can run the
Stock Status report as of 12/31/04, but does anyone know how I can get that
info into Excel? I tried exporting using the Part, PartBin, PartTran, and
PartWhse, and I know I need to back off transactions from 2005, but I can't
find the logic to do this. Has anyone done something similar? I'm running
5.2.

Thanks for your help!

Rebecca

This is the quickest and easiest way to get info from a canned report
into Excel, but not necessarily the cleanest. When you print preview
a "canned" progress report, a txt file is dropped into your Vantage
Working folder (c:\epicor\mfgwk61 for example). While the print
preview is still open, open the text file and do a save as to a
location of your choice. Open Excel and open the text file that you
saved. A text import wizard will launch. You will need to putz with
that a little to get the columns lined up correctly. The downside of
this method is that you will have blank rows and page headers
scattered throughout the data that you'll want to clean up.

If that isn't appealing to you, my next choice would be to create an
Access program linking the necessary tables in ODBC the end result of
which would be a query that mimics the Stock Status report. The
query will export from Access to Excel wonderfully, no formatting
problems.

There are other options too of course, but those are the two I would
consider doing. If I was planning on doing this frequently I would
spend the extra time up front to create the Access program and after
that is created you could get your Excel file with 1 button click,
any time you want.

Brian,

Thanks to you and Marilyn. Exporting the report this way instead of using
the Generic Text printer file made the column lineup much easier! I think I
may have to check into Access and ODBC, though, because my controller wants
me doing LOTS of exports! If so, I'll be looking for help! Lol.

Thanks again,
Rebecca
