Setting aside any programming issues with Vantage, implementing an average or
actual cost system in a "real time" environment is highly problematic simply
because of timing. The transactions are *not* commutative. In order to make a
correction, all transactions must be backed out IN REVERSE ORDER, then the
correction is made and finally all transactions reapplied.

The trouble is, one doesn't always have this luxury. One may receive parts,
issue them to jobs, ship them and then get an invoice that was ten cents
higher than the purchase order cost. How does one go back and redistribute the
costs? I just don't know of a way that it can be done. If someone knows of a
methodology, I'd love to hear it.

This is why standard costing was invented. Once you recognize your variances,
everything moves at the one cost. No runs, no hits, no errors. Now, getting a
handle on variances, that's another issue...

Placed PO for 1000 pcs at $2.00.



Received 1,000,000 pcs on accident sending the average cost to 1.999



Deleted the receipt bringing on-hand qty back to 100 yet the average is
still 1.999.







Can someone shed light on this? It could mean that average costing is
not the way to go...

Can't Delete a receiver... When we have errors on the receiver I just have to fix the average cost.

Well any change made to a receiver at all in effect deletes the receiver and puts it back in... creates all kinds of problems... I just meant it is best if you don't delete the receiver. You actually create a negative receipt and that works??? How does that wash out for payables?

Is Landed Cost something in Vantage? If so where is it? We use material burden to address these extra costs. I am on 6.1 and my average costing seems to be fine?
