Dave,

I this software only, or are they also working on hardware
(scanners, printers, etc.) The barcodes currently in the Vantage 6.1
release work fine with our current scanner. We are looking at options for
handhelds (RFQ) scanners and label printers that will work with Vantage.

Thanks

Mike

I recently contacted our account manager at Epicor regarding barcoding for
Vantage. I was told that they are currently working on a product for
version 8.x and they are developing this with Bartender. So if you are
replacing your current software my recommendation would be go with Bartender
to make any transition easier.

Todd,

Do you strictly use RB and Crystal to generate your barcodes? If you're
using Crystal how do you specify the specific output of the bar-code (e.g.
bar-width ratio) Or do you also use some dedicated bar-code generation
software? If so, which one?

We're currently using LabelView but I'm looking for a replacement product.

Years ago (elsewhere) had lots of Intermec printers for barcode labels.
They are rock solid - built like tanks. Expensive too. We used them
because of the ability to store label formats in the printer and "send" only
the data. This was on a VAX/VMS (no GUI) network with printers from
Anchorage to Phoenix on somewhat slow lines so data load was critical. The
printer would merge the data with the stored label format. Savings in
network load offset the printer price difference.

Now, with Windows and fast networking and for design RB and
Crystal....there has been nothing easier than our Zebra Z4M printer and in
3-4 years it has never had a problem other than a worn out print head. I
just treat it like a laser printer.

Just RB and Crystal. I use the Dataworks 39 font that comes with Vantage and set the "size" with the font size. Never worried about ratio. I just print the data between "*" characters. So far I have dodged Code 128 but there are some nice freeware tools around for that too.

Mike,
I can't say enough good about Wasp Labeler. It's very inexpensive, and easy
to use.
I just dumped LabelView in favor of Wasp. The learning curve is small, and
the price advantage is huge.
I am also able to call it from a command line as I did with NiceLabel and
Bartender in the past.
My $0.02

Vantage Plastics
I recently contacted our account manager at Epicor regarding barcoding for Vantage. I was told that they are currently working on a product for version 8.x and they are developing this with Bartender. So if you are replacing your current software my recommendation would be go with Bartender to make any transition easier.

Anyone using Intermec hardware for barcoding?

If not, what are you using?
