Inspection processing

Good Morning,
Is there a way to recieve (PO receipt) a partial receipt. Example we have 60,000 pcs of an insert and it takes a while for Quality to go through them but we are using them once they approve each box. I tried to do it but i get an error saying it is not the total recieved.
Thank.

Hi Tanya,

Not that I’m aware of. You need to receive the full quantity unfortunately. What I’ve heard others do is to receive the full quantity to a holding bin and they nonconform the ones that didn’t meet spec.

I just did a partial receipt to inspection and then processed the inspection in inspection processing and no error messages popped up… maybe I am doing something wrong?

What screen do you get the error message in?

I see that in inspection processing if you don’t inspect them all then you can’t move forward, you the error message:

Total of passed and failed quantities must equal the Receipt quantity in order to finish inspection.

But I still would like to know what screen you are getting the message in?

I like @Beth 's idea of sending them all to a holding bin.

Alternatively you could have receiving enter multiple receipt lines in quantities that are manageable for quality to inspect fully.

I.e. instead of making one receipt line for 60,000 pieces you could make 10 lines of 6,000 pieces each and then quality could inspect those.

I still think Beth’s idea is cleaner, less work for receiving, but then you have to worry about the inventory being used or showing as available in the system. Beth, would you make that holding bin non-nettable? Or would that just make it even more confusing?

I would probably create a BPM for the bin that says you can’t issue to a job from that bin…or something like that.

I thought about the non-nettable bin though.

thank you everyone

If you knew in advance that inspections would be by box or knew the quantity in advance, you could receive the line multiple times using a partial quantity for each, with the last line being the remaining quantity. Then inspectors could process one received line at a time, and as each is fully passed, that quantity could move into stock or go into production. You could also reverse the receipt, provided no inspection had been performed, and re-receive it as split quantities, and then mark Received All so the multiple lines now go into Inspection Processing.
