How to handle multi site with hand helds

So I have come up against another conundrum. We are testing printing material tags, from handhelds and discovered that the users are going to have to select the report style then select the printer. This is a bit impractical. Not to mention we have multiple sites.

How are people going about having users just pressing F2 for example to print from a handheld and it printing to the correct printer based on their site?

I have considered different user profiles on the RDS server for each site and a default printer for each one. I have also considered scrapping the use of the print button or rather alter it so you can autoprint, that way we can identify the employee/site and ultimately the printer.

Good Question.

We currently assign the HandHelds an ID for AD so each HandHeld has its unique Terminal Server (RDP) Login.

Example: HH042918

We also have “Generic” Epicor Users which hey login as, for example HH01 and HH02 and we make it clear such and such HandHeld is for this Company and this Site with this Workstation.

They can use the HandHeld within another site, but they would just need to login as HH02.

It’s not ideal but that’s what we have for now since changing Stations or Sites or Companys not so easy on HandHeld, you have to login into Full Epicor to make the change.

Also by the charging stations they have a Print out of Login Barcodes, so they can just Scan to login.

Thanks,
With the power of handhelds today, I am really wondering if the additional licensing costs of RDS, screen scaling issues etc. that it’s time for and Android version for hand helds.

Perhaps. The only issue with Tablets are out of the box they don’t come with a Barcode Scanner - the Apps out there use the Camera. Maybe there is a 3rd party addon. The Intermec CK71 can scan through nylon (after you wrapped your skid).

The Tablet just needs:

  • Powerful Scanner that Runs Globally in Background and scans from a further distance
  • Must be able to be programmed for Prefixes, Suffixes (AIAG)
  • Great WiFi Chip
  • Battery Swaps or Long Battery Life
