I’m all new to Epicor and I was just wondering how do we make Datasets? We are using XLConnect and the datasets doesn’t have all the fields that we want to have.
Another question is, is there a way to convert a BAQ into a Dataset?
So if you are using XLconnect I assume you are trying to extract some Epicor data into Excel. You can use the Epicor Rest API to pull data from a BAQ into excel. Have a look on the forum here for Excel and the Rest API.
Thanks Brett for responding! It is indeed what I wanted to do. I did also search up as you’ve suggested, but the process is so beyond me . Is there an easier way?
We do have a dashboard for that BAQ and for some time, my colleague has been exporting it to Excel whenever he needs it. However, instead of just having one file that he can refresh for each use, he has to create separate files for each time he exports it from a dashboard. Not to mention, we’ve paid quite a price for XLConnect not to be optimally used.
I don’t think there is that feature or functionality that enables me to convert BAQ’s into Datasets within Epicor, is there?
To be honest I am not sure what you mean by dataset? Is that an XLConnect thing?
I am not familiar with XLConnect even though we have. I installed it years ago and the finance folks
use it but they have never asked me any questions. So I dont know if you can pull a BAQ using XLConnect. You can put in a support ticket asking if XLConnect is able to do what you need.
Yes, it is an XLConnect thing. They call it Datasets in there and we’re not able to add in fields from different sources (much like how we can add multiple tables into a BAQ), hence, it’s output is very restricted. There is no option also to pull data from a BAQ.
I guess then I’d just have to raise this as a Case with Epicor and check how they’ll handle this.
Thank you so much for sharing your time and expertise with a newbie, Brett! Appreciate it much
Oh, you did help me a lot still on this case though. I was looking through a lot of manuals already and lots of forums, but your reply have made me realize that it is better to ask the experts first before trying to figure it out on my own. So much time could have saved!
