How can MT-SaaS customers use barcode Code128 with SSRS

I work with a few Multi Tennant SaaS Epicor Customers and they have a couple of customers that require specific barccode fonts i.e. code128 and datamatrix… The Code128 is common for the big box retailers i.e. Walmart, Target, etc.

I have been converting Crystal Reports over to SSRS and came across this issue. Unlike Crystal reports - SSRS is “rendered” at the server - so the fonts need to be installed on the server. I asked Epicor if they could install those fonts and I was told that If we sent them the fonts - then they would install them on the server. Unfortunately, I don’t think the licensing agreement would allow that and then all the other SaaS customers would be able to use the Fonts that WE paid for. Plus if Epicor ever changed servers, it seems likely that the fonts would not be copied over and would then stop working.

I was hoping I could use the IDAutomation Barcode SaaS for the Epicor SSRS.

My testing failed - I assume because of firewall rules. The Barcode SaaS has you create a URL for the background image of a textbox and then the URL returns an image that is the encoded Barcode. It works great locally for Non-MultiTennant customers.

However, It was confirmed yesterday that Epicor SaaS servers cannot reference an outside website. They sited “Security” as their reason.

So - If you are an Epicor SaaS customer hoping to use SSRS with Code128 or Datamatrix - Crystal Reports is your ONLY option.

If anyone knows of another way to do this I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. I think this is kind of a big thing - especially if you work with the big box retailers.

Thanks,
