Highest Server Operating System for Vantage 8

Chris,

I've received a lot of questions lately regarding legacy versions of Epicor software and the best bet for V6 is virtualizing a Windows 2003 server and running it on there. You can buy hardware fit to run E10, install 2012 R2 on it, install the MS Hyper-V role and then create a virtual V6 server. Once you move to 10, you can still keepV6 running in the background and eventually sunset it. This way you only have to buy hardware once.

Vantage 8.03.408.


I currently run in a Windows Small Business environment, so Vantage is running on my File/Print Server.  I will be replacing my File/Print Server and I need to know what Server O/S's I can run Vantage 8.03.408 on.


Windows Server 2003:  Yes

Windows Server 2008:  ???

Windows Server 2012:  ???


Any insight is appreciated.  Oh, I have looked at the 8.03.400 Hardware Sizing Guide and it only mentions Windows Server 2003.  Also know this is not a long term plan as I understand Windows Server 2003 Lifecycle will end in July of 2015.

We are running 8.03.408A on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with no problems.  You do have to make a single entry registry change to get PET to work.

Technically it will run on 2012 R2, however, you're better off running it on 2008 R2 as this is supported by Epicor.

I have the same question for 6.0 and which version it can operate on.  Is there anything different that I would need to get it to work on for 2008 R2?  We are using progress currently.  I will also say that we are planning on jumping straight to 10 within the next 18 months.
