Heads up - Avalara

Hey all!
This isn’t a question. My system experienced a grinding halt and some user crashes.

After noticing all the people seeing this were dealing with tax calculations, we contacted Avalara. Our account manager confirmed a “service interruption”.

Just wanted to pass along the information in case others may have noticed a hiccup.
Things are back to normal now,

We noticed the same thing from about 10:00AM CST until 1:00PM CST. We had to turn of our Tax interface because everyone using Order Entry couldn’t Convert Quotes to Orders, Add lines to orders, pretty much anything that would touch tax calculations.

Everything is back to normal as you said, just giving a +1 to the “We experienced it” column

Ditto @ WaterFurnace for the same time period. We’ve been an Avalara customer since 2008 and it’s a great service. Outages are very rare, but they happen to everyone at some point.

The same thing happened to us too. We thought it was a network issue but makes sense now with the timing.

For the future, if you want to check yourselves if you have issues:

So, jumping on the “we experienced this” bandwagon.
My question is… What’s a workaround in this scenario if we need tax calculations?

Yep - Our sales team was crawling for about 2 hours yesterday. Any Customer/Quote/Order that used Avalara (Address Verification or Calculate Tax) got tied up. It was back to normal by yesterday afternoon for us.

I also signed up for automatic status updates on the page Jeff mentioned (https://status.avalara.com/) so hopefully we can stay ahead.

We could disable tax and address verification, but we’d need some process to get the orders taxed properly, after the fact. You could calculate taxes manually if you get the tax rate from Avalara (or google). Not sure how they would be added to the order/invoice yet…
