Gaps in the General Journal Entry Numbers v8.03.305K

Thanks for everyone's input. It was plenty to get the auditors off my
back....at least for now.

Mark

Also, since each journal entry is numbered sequentially, if you are
entering entries in two months at one time, say January and February,
the missing numbers can be located in the next month.

We have found that, when entering an "accrual" entry, that the
reversal entry (next month) is created at the same time (and
assigned the next sequential entry number). Maybe this is what is
happening for you?

We have auditors in...what fun...just when I thought I had run every
report posible in Vantage they come asking for more.

I ran the General Ledger report including detail and they came back
asking why 5 numbers were missing from the sequence of numbers. When I
went into the Journal Tracker I found the same numbers missing. Any
ideas why this would happen?

I think that every time you do a New (enter record name here), Vantage grabs
the next number. If you bail on the transaction, it skips over that number.
It's true for Job Numbers, Sales Order Numbers, Quote Numbers, etc. You may be
able to show the gaps in the numbers of those other tables to prove the
theory. Internal JV numbers are meaningless. As long as the Trial Balance ties
to every entry, there can be no funny business. This is unlike checks where
there's a printed document out in the world that may be missing.
