Amy,
I'm not really supposed to bring this up yet, but I hate to see anybody
pursue an outside system without knowing what is on the horizon. My
company is in the process of releasing an intensely bar-code driven data
collection system as Open Source under the GNU General Public License.
It was initially developed for the BAAN ERP, but we wrote it in such a
way that conduits could be developed to accomodate any system that
allows data to be imported / exported. Here is where the project is
being uploaded (we expect to have all of the facilities, including
current Windows binaries, in place by January 31st):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sabernetdcs/
and here is a "work-in-progress" theory of operation section:
http://sabernetdcs.sourceforge.net/theory_of_operation/
If there are any time sensitive questions out there (i.e. you need to
know "now" if this is going to work for you), I can entertain them -
otherwise I suggest hanging tight until our formal announcement at the
end of this month.
Hope this helps,
