Because some companies actually one to actually promise ship dates to customers before generating a bunch of bogus dartboard lower level material requirement dates to drive the planner/buyers crazy.
With job order wizard, you can create & generate the order - but not schedule. (We've also got a BAM running that flips the generated job back to unengineered once generated.)
That gives us a way to have our planners review each order top to bottom before scheduling (& driving now ACCURATELY dated lower level material requirements) and confirming a ship date to our customers.
MRP is a dumb date/qty offset calculator and the dates it arrives at rarely represent an achievable plan. (Ask GM how well it works.)
People plan much better than oversimplified computer algorithms based upon inherently flawed assumptions (which is what MRP is).
Order job wizard allows the human to be reinserted in the process at a point that doesn't produce planning chaos.

yeah i do agree perhaps i missed what he was driving at in his question. i think weather you se job wizard is highly dependant on your business. if you have established routes and bom's for the parts youre making i dont know why anyone would pay someone to run job wizard when mrp can do it for free. --- In vantage@yahoogroups .com, Robert Brown <robertb_versa@ ...> wrote:
