FW: Dispatch notes and shipping labels

"Epicor was not helpful. First they blew it off, saying they didn't offer
support for Crystal."

Now that Progress is dropping Report-Writer does this mean that EPICOR is
going to start supporting Crystal a tad better????

Sounds like you may have hit the same bug I did a few years ago.

I was trying to do a Crystal PO form to print on a 11x8.5" [sideways /
landscape] multi-part form on a matrix printer. Crystal would *always*
pick up the form size and orientation from the selected default printer,
rather than the one you selected for the report. As a result, the operator
had to change the default printer in the control panel, instead of easily
selecting it from the dialogue box when printing POs or reports.

<long rant> I never did find a solution. Epicor was not helpful. First
they blew it off, saying they didn't offer support for Crystal. Once I
finally got the tech to understand the problem was a system-level Vantage
to Crystal interaction (rather than just a Crystal "how to"), he still
didn't seem to understand just why it was of any concern. SeaGate was
supportive, but said it was likely a problem in the way the application was
calling their print routines. They asked if I could tell them which of
their subroutines was being called to produce the output. I passed this
back to Epicor; their curt response: "We do not make source code
available." DumbAsses! I'm not asking for the whole program for
myself! Just give this guy at SeaGate ONE lousy line of code, or even just
tell him which of THEIR [SeaGate / Crystal's] PUBLICLY DOCUMENTED APIs is
being used. No Go. </long rant>

Some work-arounds:
* Right click on Printers in Control Panel and create a shortcut. Place
shortcut on desktop / task-bar, or assign it a hot-key so you can quickly
change default printers.
* Use a compiled Crystal report. I found printing this way honored the
printer's form settings instead of using the default printer's. The
operator will have to preview the form first, to generate the temporary DBF
files. Then launch the compiled report. You can use a windoze icon, or
from the Vantage menu or favorites.
* Untested, but good possibility: try Caesar Development's multi-form
selector utility. Might work, since it appears to use the same print
preview that the compiled reports do.
* Untested, but good possibility #2: Try printing via Fine Print
www.fineprint.com Its "stationery" features might handle the different
form sizes.
