Troy,
It is editable 4gl code. I've posted a Recieved Items Not Yet Invoiced
report that uses a DBF export in the files section.
I do compile it to .r code sometimes before sticking it on the meny because
it will run slighly faster.

Thad,
When you run that 4GL export code, are you running a .w program? Is it
compiled or can you see the code and edit it?

Troy,
Thanks for Prayin!! Peter Van Dam, one of the gurus on the Progress
group, and the only one who has posted 4GL dbf export code for free on the
web, is helping me through this one. He wrote all the dbf export code
that
I've been using.
And, yes standing at a mere 6'1", this one's definitely over my head.
God Bless,
Thaddeus

Subject: RE: [Vantage] FW: DBF Memo Fields
Basically, I'm creating a custom Work Order report that
uses a dbf to export fields into three seperate dbf files.
The first dbf contains a various user fields from the jobhead and
OrderHead
tables, which are linked through the JobProd table. Also included is
the
customer name for the sales order. This dbf contains one record, and is
derived from the a user prompted job number.
The second dbf contains all the job operations where jobnum = [the job
number in the first dbf ]and assemblyseq = 0.
The third dbf contains the Sales order line part number for each
OrderDtl
where ordernum = [the order number in the second dbf on for the ,
quantity,
and the jobhead.CommentText for the first JobHead that is linked to that
sales order line.
The second and third dbfs are viewed as subreports within a report
containing the first dbf.
Everything works fine until I export a jobhead.CommentText field into
the
3rd dbf that contains multiple lines, because the dbf file format
doesn't
support fields with carriage returns.
When Vantage exports the job comments field, it does so via the
JobHead.fpt
memo field.
When you export the JobHead.CommentText using the export utility, it
truncates the field at the end of the first line.
We need multi-line jobhead.CommentText fields on this report, and the
only
solution I know of is to create a memo field containing the commenttext
field using 4GL, or export that commenttext field via some sort of
delimited
file so I can stick the CommentText field in a dbt file that is linked
to
the third dbf file.
What I'm asking is if anyone has any source code in 4GL that would
assist
me
in this endeavor, or if there is another approach that I could use
WITHOUT
USING ODBC.
IF that makes any sense THEN
please respond with any suggestions you may have
ELSE
please pray for me
END IF.
Thanks in advance!!
Thaddeus

What exactly do you need to end up with, Thad (what tables/fields)?

Vantage 3 / 8.3a Procedure editor (no PROVISION), query only licence,
NT
Server, 98/NT/2k clients
1) Does anyone have 4GL code to export memo fields to a dBase memo
file
(dbt)?
I am trying to export records in the database for use in Crystal
Reports.
Because of security and reliability issues, management has forbidden
ODBC.
I have tried without success to export a multi-line comments field to
a
dbf
file, format "x(255)"
Alternative to this is to export the fields a delimited file, and
convert
the resulting file to DBF/DBT format.
2) Does anyone have Visual Basic code for that?
3)Is the TAB character allowed in a progress database field? If so,
what
would be a better delimiter to use in an application such as this?
Thanks in advance,
Thaddeus Jacobs
