I don't think that code is available to us( what they use on 'ok' and 'cancel').
Â
You may have to just have your button do the checking, giving 'error' if needed and allowing the correction to be made by the user. Maybe also leave the .p in the 'ok' button so that the Error will still display, but if it does, the user has to re-open the VB Form to address it.
Â
Not real smooth, I know.Would be nice to 'grey-out' the 'ok' button , but anyway..

Thanks so much for the reply! That is an idea... I could move the .p program to a new button, then I would have to make that new button my new 'OK' button and would have to have it "Save and Close" the VB form if all is good. None of the examples I used have any code on 'saving and closing' a form, does anybody know the code for that or have any examples they could share?

I'd suggest moving your .p to a button you add, rather than the 'ok' button - if that is reasonable.

I don't think there as any 'event' available at the 'drop-down' box ( as in 'changed' event, etc.).

I think I ALMOST figured out how to do this, but I still have a major
stumbling block. What I did was write a progress .p program and put it
on the "OK' button. The progress program looks at the value of my first
field and depending on what it is, looks at the value of my second field
to make sure it is filled in. If it not filled in, it provides an error
message. That part was pretty simple and is working great. The problem
is, even though it gives an error message that the other field is
required, it proceeds to 'save and close' the screen through the 'OK'
button.
Does anyone know if there is a way within the .p program to make it
cancel the 'OK' button so it will not close? Or any other ideas on how
to accomplish this?
I know I am really pulling on some memories here from when things used
to be VB forms / .p procedures, but any ideas or advice would be much
appreciated, I am so stuck :(
Thanks!
Sarah

Subject: [Vantage] [5.2] VB Forms Programming Question
Hi everyone,
I am still way back here on vantage 5.2. I have a question regarding
programming on VB forms.
We have two 'Drop-down' text fields on a VB form. We would like the
second field to be required to be filled in, depending on the value of
field 1. I am not sure if this even possible, I have done very little
with VB forms other than to add fields for data storage.
Does anybody know if this is possible and if so, any advice for getting
started? I am experienced with Visual Basic programming and if I was
using MS access would know how to do this, but am not sure where to
start in Progress VB Forms?
Any advice / feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Sarah
