Fulfillment Workbench by percentage and Picking by Bin Sequence?

I am reaching out to inquire about two specific functionalities within Epicor’s inventory management system.

  1. Optimized Inventory Allocation: After orders are released for picking, we are seeking a solution that can allocate inventory on the pick sheets in the most efficient way possible. This should be based on the individual bin locations of the available inventory in our warehouse. Our racks are sequentially numbered according to their floor location, and each rack level (shelf) has its own unique bin number. For instance, the first rack is rack 100, with shelves numbered 100, 101, 102, and so on. The next rack is rack 200, with shelves numbered 201, 202, etc. While this system simplifies locating specific bin locations, it also presents a challenge. There may be situations where a product in a lower bin number (e.g., 105) is inaccessible without a ladder or lift. Conversely, a product in a higher bin number (e.g., 401) may be more efficiently picked without the aid of a ladder or lift by just walking a few feet further down the warehouse. Our experience indicates that Epicor allocates from the lowest bin number to the highest, which is not always the most efficient approach. We have tried to use the Bin Sequencing data field, but we have not found a way for Epicor to allocate based on that field. Is there a solution for this within Epicor? We are considering a custom solution that would overwrite the Epicor warehouse and bin location initially assigned to the release via some type of applied business process on the Material Move Request records created once an order is released for picking. However, we were hoping there might be an out-of-the-box feature we might be missing.

  2. Inventory Allocation for Different Customer Types: All our available inventory is housed in a single warehouse. We aim to fulfill our trade customers’ orders by limiting the available inventory to 90% of the total. This would reserve the remaining 10% for our direct-to-consumer orders. Does Epicor offer a feature that allows for this type of inventory allocation, and if so, how does it work?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
