Fixed vs. variable scrap

Epicor, I believe, supports EITHER fixed or variable scrap and we have not figured out how to incorporate both into a BOM. Our situation is that we need both fixed and variable on most materials in our BOM. We need, for instance, 800’ of material to set up the press (fixed scrap) and then 10% scrap as the press is running. Currently our solution is to add the material twice on the BOM, once with the correct Qty/Parent and 10% scrap and then another entry of the same material with 800’ Qty/Parent, fixed quantity. This solution works fine, and is scalable, with correct costing and correct BOM but adds a lot of complexity to the BOM…has anyone figured out a better way?
Thank you
Jim

I saw you hadn’t had an answer yet.
One thought is to setup on the operation a scrap rate also that would be a fixed qty that would consume the 800 ft of material.
On the job it would tell you to run more for that one operation.
The scheduling may be impacted, so you may have to adjust setup for that.
The first article qty on the operation may also be an option, but that may not drive the additional qty that you need.

For the fixed scrap build that into your qty per and use the scrap % for variable scrap
