Epicor screen drag lag after Windows 10 update to Build 2004

Our organization just updated to Windows 10 (ver. 2004). In Epicor 10.2.400, some screens, seems to be ones with many fields, become laggy when moving them around the screen with the mouse. It’s difficult to describe but you click and hold to drag the window and as you drag the window follows but with a noticeable lag of about a second. With many screens open it’s becoming cumbersome for many users that reposition screens.

The lag only occurs when moving windows around the screen, when the window is stationary no noticeable performance problems occur. It only occurs when Show Window Contents While Dragging is enabled.

We’ve found disabling the Windows setting of Show Window Contents while dragging eliminates the problem. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences. I’m guessing it’s something with infragistics not liking the new windows update? Anyone else experience this before?

Sounds like your Graphics Driver isn’t installed, as if it reverted back to Sofware Accelerated.

Everything in Device Manager shows fine?

Edit

Nevermind – you are saying Epicor, basically other apps work fine.

Right all other apps work just fine. It’s just Epicor and just some screens, screens that seem to have many fields, like part entry. This is happening on dozens of PCs after the windows update.

I have this issue too, but I couldn’t remember when it started. I’ll try upgrading to 20H2 and see it it fixes the problem

Related perhaps… So some other apps…

Upgrading to upgrading to 20H2 did not help

Hm, like quote for example. Loaded up the base form with no customization and it still happened.

This is the work around. I actually like this on my system better. Turn this setting off.

You can get to that on Win10 by searching for Advanced System Settings.

Thanks. Did you make a case on Epicare for this by any chance?

I found the workaround/solution above but we also created a case with EpiCare, case: CS0002307074

Mind sharing if there was any progress on your ticket, and what the workaround is?

Epicor’s official response:

The suggestion was for you to contact Microsoft Support directly if this behavior after one of their updates introduced this behavior.

I just reached out to our Development team and they have agreed to open a ticket with Microsoft as well so that if they need any particular technical detail they can provide that to MS Support. Beyond that, there will not be any specific changes introduced into the ERP product regarding this behavior as this is not considered a software bug with ERP. While this is not a factor in ERP development’s review of this behavior, to set expectations, our legacy ERP Winform UI is not go-forward for ERP and beginning in ERP 11 (Spring 2021) we are fully transitioning to our new UI interface framework Kinetic. With every ERP release since ERP 10.2.100, we include additional Kinetic forms for our customers to familiarize themselves with this change and would encourage all of our customers on an ERP release that has Kinetic functionality to starting using the Kinetic version of those forms–that would also be an alternative approach to take as the behavior being described does not present with ERP’s go forward UI Kinetic.

Our ERP development team will add any findings from our discussion with MS Support via the R&D submission request associated with this EpicCare case via your EpicCare portal > Open Problems when this case is closed. There is no timeline on when there may be an update and the scope of this discussion with MS Support is mainly to bring it to their attention and let MS determine any appropriate steps they feel are needed regarding this behavior with their “Show window contents while dragging” functionality.

Please let us know if you have any further questions regarding this.

So to summarize, Epicor says it’s probably a Microsoft problem. Since Epicor is moving to Kinetic in E11 anyway it’s not super important for them to worry about it.

The work-around is to disable show contents while dragging from inside Windows.
