We are in the process of switching off the handheld module over to the wireless warehouse (whatever you call it) solution. Is anyone using an android emulator to test with?
Android Emulator comes with the Android SDK and studio setup but it’s a nightmare. I would just buy a cheap testing device and call it. 100% honest it… is… a nightmare.
Something like this Amazon.com
Thank you for the feedback. We messed around with BlueStacks for a bit and didn’t get it working. We have a test device and it’s a pain to test remotely…
Yeah, I am with you, emulators from my experience are horrible. BlueStacks I am looking at you. I havent tried the newer https://www.bignox.com/ that @lindsayc mentioned to me, perhaps it’s better.
@jgiese.wci That’s the one that Epicor Support was using on a call to test something that doesn’t work with 10.2.600. One of those the solution is to upgrade to the latest release.
10.2.600 is EOL an upgrade should be performed. Even heavily customized going to Kinetic 2022 should be fairly non-event unless you have CSG or some really really wacky stuff. We’re targeting the upgrade from 600 now that the pandemic dust settled. I anticipate about 15-20 hours of work with 250+ combined customizations (UI, BPM, BAQs, etc etc). To go form classic forms to classic forms that is.
I believe we have that scanner here in the basement for testing the apps we develop in-house (or one nearly identical) I like the thing. For the price it’s great. For production floor though hardware keyboards on the device are a must.
@jgiese.wci We are in process of re-implementation so we’ll be on Kinetic 2021 at least by the time we get done later in the year. We have some funky things that are going on from a previous IT team before Chris.
OK it’s not just me. I was sure I have been doing something wrong. I never got around to asking about it here on the forum.
The Epicor employee had an emulator on his demo, and I did ask but he didn’t have any advice then.
It really would be nice to get one to work, for doing screenshots, rather than taking a photo with my cell phone or I guess sending files from the Android to the PC.
I know for at least older emulators the exact CPU you have can make or break it’s usability. I believe it was some sort of Intel that had “decent” performance. Everything else was a mess.
We installed the teams application onto the device and I take screen shots on the device and then upload them into a teams folder that we are using for storing all of the screen shot references. It’s a little bit of a pain since it only does one screen shot at a time. It’s worked out great though for reference later and for creating documentation.
@lindsayc we use the Kinetic Warehouse App as well. After joining meeting from the handheld and and sharing the screen, we grab the screenshots on the PC.
We gave up on the emulators. we worked for me but our IT department went crazy with all the data bluestacks sent back to china!
