Epicor DBA Blank Title 133728

Emily,
I am the hired Epicor specialist at Hexagon.  Until E10 I would not have considered a hosted solution due to architecture, and I'm not convinced yet that hosted E10 will provide sufficient performance.  Since we're talking SAAS here the measure will be ROE (Return on Expense).

From my biased standpoint whether you go hosted or local, I think you will be much better served having a local DBA that will be able to more fully understand and respond to your local information challenges.  This is even more important as you move to the very different technology of E10.  Finding an E10 experienced DBA will be impossible for a year or two but prior Epicor experience would be very beneficial, and those people should be present in most major markets.

<div>We’re getting to the point where we’re considering either hiring an on-site Epicor DBA or similar type person to manage the Epicor installation, do routine maintenance, and do things like customizations and BPMs or moving our installation to a hosted solution (that would hopefully provide the same resources). Does anyone use a third-party managed host for Epicor? Who do you use? How has that worked out for you? Right now our outsourced IT group is handling Epicor issues, but they don’t have much depth of knowledge about Epicor and we really need someone who is more of an Epicor specialist. If anyone has considered these options and come to a satisfactory conclusion, I’d love to hear a little bit about your thought process. For those who have an Epicor specialist on staff, could you share what the job description looks like? What qualifications did you look for? Were you able to find someone with Epicor experience, or did you train somebody? How do you handle after-hours emergencies or outages? Any insight would be helpful, or just a description of what your IT resources look like with regard to Epicor. If you’ve gone from self-hosted environment to a third-party host (or Epicor hosted, although the feedback on that seems… not great) what have the pros and cons been? How do you connect to the Epicor server? What type/speed of internet connection do you have? User complaints with either? I know this is a really broad question(s), but we seem to be having some growing pains with the way Epicor is managed and are exploring all options. We will be upgrading from 9 to 10 soon, so now seems like a good time to make any changes. Thank for any input!

We’re getting to the point where we’re considering either hiring an on-site Epicor DBA or similar type person to manage the Epicor installation, do routine maintenance, and do things like customizations and BPMs or moving our installation to a hosted solution (that would hopefully provide the same resources).

If not on-site I would recommend TriGem as a resource. Affordable and very experienced staff.

Subject: [Vantage] Epicor DBA

We’re getting to the point where we’re considering either hiring an on-site Epicor DBA or similar type person to manage the Epicor installation, do routine maintenance, and do things like customizations and BPMs or moving our installation to a hosted solution (that would hopefully provide the same resources).
