Epicor creates temp files at a alarming rate

In the TechRefGuide_PerfTuneSQL_905700.pdf it recommends Bt of 40960. I set it to that and eliminated almost all of my temp files. the server has 48GB, so they are mostly in ram. I thinks this may only apply to the Dbi temp files.

We get the temp files daily. Often if a report crashes. We have a script that clears out the temp folder daily as sometimes if something like inv wip reconciliation crashes it will drop a 6gb temp file.

Hi All
Epicor version 9.05.701 Progress

Since yesterday epicor started creating big temp files on our server.
I tried restarting the server but within a half hour it used already as
much as 10GB for temp files.

I have no idea what happened. we didn't do any new BAQ or BPM that can
cause this.
I checked the log files and found no errors or anything suspicious.

If anyone has a idea how i can find out what causes this i would appreciate

Ephraim

Big Reports can cause this, also bad RDDs have you created or modified a
report recently?

Look in your task history and see if anything jumps out.? Its hard to track
down. You may try to open one of temp files wth notepad sometimes there
maybe useful info in there.

The files that are large all start with "rcd"

This is what epicor says in their answerbook 1420BRK

- rcd* R-code swap file (since OpenEdge 10.1C) - This
is used to dynamically swap r-code segments in and out of the execution
buffer instead of the srt* file. If these files are big and growing, you
have a lot of rcode swapping and many procedures open.

Typically large dbi files are caused by badly designed ODBC reports or BAQ
queries/dashboards, i.e. not using the appropriate table links/indexes.

So my problem doesnt come from BAQ or RDD since its not dbi files

Can someone shed light on this

Ephraim

The temp files are created when the Server runs out of allotted space in
the temp table buffers(-Bt in the .pf)

This could be related to reports, or possibly related to a dashboard or
tracker, or some BAQ that someone has written poorly.
