Engineering Workbench Groups

We only went live this past weekend, but this is what we are doing and some
of the benefits that we expect.
We have an ECN process (Engineering Change Notice) that is similar to ECO.
We therefore issue a new group for each ECN based on the ECN number.
Being a medical device manufacturer we must keep a history, so this is
effective for this reason. Also, this keeps us from checking a part into a
new group when one is still in process. We have done this in the past using
our paperwork control (and have gotten some unwanted results, loosing
changes made by the first ECN). Now Vantage will not allow it, and for us
that is a good thing.
Our Document Control Engineer notes that although you cannot delete groups
(she would always want the history to stay so she likes this), you can close
the groups and not deal with them further.

I hope someone either finds this useful, or suggest a better way...

We went live on August 4 with 6.0. I experience is to make a group for
each engineer. If an engineer has several several projects checked out to
his group but has only one open. Nobody can get at the other projects even
if they are in the same group. Group seems to be a misnomer. If anyone has a
method for really using groups please let me know.
Also, has anyone found a way to checkout a part with multiple
subassemblies ALL at once and be able to check them back in as a Whole
assembly ?? I have a current part with 29 subassemblies and my quote people
are swearing at me.

We are new to 6.0 (upgrading this weekend). I was wondering how users on
6.0 set up groups for the Engineering Workbench. Vantage suggests setting
up groups by "engineers name, a product family, or the year". Knowing that
any group that is created can not be deleted, I would like to set these up
properly to begin with....

Any Suggestions?
