We use 5679 and don't see any errors. I don't know if there is
something special about it, but for us it works.

Most all email uses the same "port number" so all you have to do
is
setup the correct port numbers (to and from) and email
addresses. You
will need to setup a "from" address though unless you want to

administrator account. I setup a user called "VantageAlertMail"

My problem is the actual setup of ports - no matter what port I
use for
mail in and out of Vantage I get an error message every time I
open
Vantage. Can someone send me their settings that doesn't get an
error
message every time you open Vantage??? Our email server uses
port 25 so
I know that is correct but the other port seems to be a mystery
( not
even 9999 works ).

We us Outlook set up with POP3 mail through our ISP.

Not sure what you mean. We have our POP3 email thru our web provider.
