E9 serial number returns

Can anyone share their process?

Looking to see how others handle serial number RMA for a warranty repair. 

 

I am trying to figure out a better way to handle serial number tracked parts returned for warranty repair.  If you return the serial number part using the shipped part number.  Process it into a job with the same part number the system will re assign the serial number to the top job number.  This all works great except when you ship it the added warranty costs are washed as a variance.  If you use a non system part you can collect the cost to put them against a warranty repair GL account but you will then have no tractability on the part number and will leave the serial number sitting in whip.

 

Any thought on a better process?
