E9 - Quote symbol in PartNum not joining in Report Data Definiti

Good Day Tim:

With only 258 parts, I would make the new Part#'s.

In a year you will have history again, and in the
meantime you can use the old history.

You should also run the search often to stop new ones
from getting in; or, a BPM at PART-Entry to stop it there ( much better
solution).

Finally, the last time I migrated data, quotes in the
Description were a problem in the migration.

Thanks for the input Len. Unfortunately, we do have many part numbers
(258) like this and there is indeed history. These are not new part
numbers, they have been in our old system for years with much history
which we also brought in during our implementation DMTs. I am very
disappointed that Epicor would allow the creation of a part number that
included characters that would be problematic down stream. Our old
system didn't mind these characters, so we didn't even consider the
issue since the data imported correctly.

We have several parts that have the quote (") symbol as part of the part number. For example, a part number for shrink tube includes the diameter as inches like this E6000-AUF-15/16"BLK. I have copied and modified the BOM Listing RDD to include the PartCost table and created a relationship between PartMtl and PartCost on the PartNum. Now when I run the RDD, in the XML output, I will see the above part number in PartMtl section, but I will not see it in the PartCost section. I will see all other non quote character parts though, so I know the relationship is working, just not for parts with a quote symbol.

Any idea why?
Are they being escaped in the XML or do you just see the quote? I believe

The part number is escaped in the XML for the PartMtl like this:

<PartMtl>
<RptLanguageID>enu</RptLanguageID>
<Company>FCII01</Company>
<MfgComment>1.5"</MfgComment>
<MtlPartNum>E6000-AUF-15/16"BLK</MtlPartNum>
<MtlSeq>42</MtlSeq>
<PartNum>09-59-PTO-200-01</PartNum>
<QtyPer>.125</QtyPer>
<RevisionNum>1</RevisionNum>
<UOMCode>FT</UOMCode>
<ViewAsAsm>true</ViewAsAsm>
<Calc_AltPartRevAltMethod>-1</Calc_AltPartRevAltMethod>
<Calc_Level>1</Calc_Level>
<Calc_PartNumIndentor>.E6000-AUF-15/16"BLK</Calc_PartNumIndentor>
<Calc_RequiredQty>.13</Calc_RequiredQty>
<Calc_SeqNum>100034</Calc_SeqNum>
<Calc_ShortPartMtlDesc>4:1 SHRINK TUBE,15/16" BLK,POF</Calc_ShortPartMtlDesc>
<Calc_TopPartSeed>09-59-PTO-200-01*100001</Calc_TopPartSeed>
<Calc_UOM>EA</Calc_UOM>
</PartMtl>

The issue appears to be the relationship created in the RDD between PartMtl and PartCost does not then find this part in the PartCost table and add an entry for it as a <PartCost></PartCost> section. Basically, the data isn't complete in the RDD so Crystal has nothing to work with.

Yikes, that's a problem. We have migrated from a system that didn't care and we have many parts with those symbols. During our testing, we figured if the part master didn't throw a fit, things should be ok. I guess that's not the case.

Good Day:

Unless you have over a thousand PARTs with the problem,
the right answer is to get rid of the " by replacing with new parts. You
can da BAQ search on >> Part:PartNum >> matches (constant = *"* ).

As noted, it will just keep popping up with problems.
Even if you export or Paste data.

Unfortunately, there are dominoes:

A. Since it is a new part, it will not have a history. Trans, PO,
Sales-Orders, etc. - all under old number.

B. Probably want to make new a substitute for the old to prevent usage -
or make old inactive.

C. New should have a note with old # so you can find it.

D. Need to change in all BOM's

E. Maybe a little customer confusion since they need to order the new
number.
