We have several parts in one of our companies that have different cost methods set up in the Part Detail tab versus the Site Detail tab. For example, the true value should be Last Cost. On the Site Tab it is currently set to Last. The Part Detail tab shows Std. It will not allow me to change the Cost Method on the Part Detail tab. It acts like it works when I save but then reverts back to Std.
I have two questions:
Why can’t I change the Part Detail Cost Method to Last?
What impact will it have by leaving the Part Detail Cost Method still set to Std while the Site Cost Method is set to Last? To my understanding, Epicor uses the Site Cost Method for everything but need confirmation before we proceed.
The setting on the Part-> Detail tab is really like the default for future added sites.
If Part / Detail tab has AVG, You could set the cost method on Site -> Detail (of site ‘A’) to LAST, and STD for site ‘B’.
Part trans to related to Site ‘A’ would use LAST
Part trans to related to Site ‘B’ would use STD
If you add a new site ‘C’, it defaults to AVG (copied from the Part-> Detail tab)
If you change the cost method on the Part -> Detail tab, you’ll be prompted to see if you want to update cost method of all sites to the newly selected one on Part -> Detail.
I do not believe that any GL trans are created if you do change a site’s cost method. Which means your inventory GL account may now be incorrect.
Edit
Whoops forgot to answer your questions.
You can’t change the cost method if there is QOH. You also must use STD for parts that are not Qty Bearing.
The setting on the Part->Detail will have no bearing on transactions. they always use the cost method specified on the relevant Site Detail
So i DMT the Part Cost Method to STD but when i go to site it shows as AVG. I had removed all inventory when i did this. I also found out if i changed it manually on part set up the site cost method updated to the same (std), but when i DMT it, it was different. I tried to DMT the site cost method but it said it couldnt change the cost method bc it would be different. Any suggestions here?
Sorry for the late reply
To answer the question. The Costing method on the Company Configuration is set to Average. I beleive this is the default. So any new part added will take that up initially. If you wanted it to be standard when creating the part plant records then set it to Standard.
