Thanks. Others won't open because there are too many fields and still
others because some fields are too long. It does make things rather
difficult.

Some tables won't connect through ODBC because of the number of indices.
You
can create a pass-though query and just do a FILE | EXPORT to a
delimited text
file.

Some tables won't connect through ODBC because of the number of indices. You
can create a pass-though query and just do a FILE | EXPORT to a delimited text
file.

Mark W.
Matt:

Listed below is some progress code that will allow you to export any Vantage
table and will give all the field names on the first line of the delimited
table. Progress has a file structure that allows a person to access the
file and field names, format, etc. _file, _field, etc.

It is my suggestion for you to paste this code into your Progress editor
save it and then change the word customer to the table name to the table
name you want.

Find out how to get the Progress editor and use the program - it works! The
Progress editor access should be under the 8.03 Administrator icon

def var vTable as char format "x(20)" LABEL "Table" no-undo.

DEF VAR ofile AS CHAR FORMAT "x(40)" NO-UNDO.

vTable = "customer".

Do any of you have any suggestions on how to dump the contents of a
table to either a text file or a CSV file? We are still in
implementation, but have Vantage 8.03.403C.

Thanks. Others won't open because there are too many fields and still
others because some fields are too long. It does make things rather
difficult.

Some tables won't connect through ODBC because of the number of indices.
You
can create a pass-though query and just do a FILE | EXPORT to a
delimited text
file.

Here's the 4GL code to get it done...

/* Dump out the info for analysis */
Output to "C:\temp\ShipDtl.csv".
Export Delimiter "," "CustNum" "JobNum" "PartNum" "RevisionNum"
"ShipToNum".
For Each ShipDtl where ShipDtl.Company = "YourCompany"
no-lock:
Export Delimiter "," CustNum JobNum PartNum RevisionNum ShipToNum.
End.
OUTPUT CLOSE.

Another way is to setup a BAQ that is the table you want dumped and
include all the fields. Then 'test' it, copy all and paste into Excel.

That won't do it. I heard that Progress is no longer suppling the tool
but thought you might have it from an earlier version. The other option
you have is to connect via Access. Depending on the table, you can
connect to the DB via ODBC and select all from the table either to a
file or to display and then copy and paste to Excel
