Yes, you are correct. You cannot backup the running database with a normal
backup program. I run the Vantage online backup utility, then Veritas
backs up that file. I did notice that the DB directory was NOT excluded
from the Veritas backup job. I changed that and we will see what happens.
Just another joy of setting up a new server from scratch.
Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think you can back up the mfgsys
db.
You must run the backup online backup utility, and back up the resulting
file.

Have an odd one for all of you.
Our setup: Dell Poweredge 2800, Dual 3.GHz proc., 3 Gb ram, Vantage is
on a 261gb raid partition - 250gb free, running Windows 2k3. Vantage
6.1.526, Progress 9.1d with latest service pack and patch.
For the last two days, whenever Veritas BackupExec 9.1 starts its
nightly backup job, The Vantage database shuts down. There are no
plug-ins installed into Veritas, so it shouldn't be sending any commands
to any other programs. I run the Vantage online backup before the tape
drive backup starts. The shutdown is recorded in the application log 40
minutes after the Vantage backup occurs, Just at the time the Veritas
backup starts.
Below are some of the error messages.

Sounds like some kind of drive issue but, when it occurs at the same
time as the nightly backup I am suspicious. As a test, I have moved the
timing of the nightly backup. This all started this week, work flawless
since the upgrade to 6.1. Nothing has been installed or changed on the
server. Maybe another security fix by Microsoft? ;)
Any Ideas would be appreciated. I am afraid this may be a round-robin
of finger pointing between Dell-Veritas-Epicor.
