I believe there is an unload/re-load type process that decomposes the tables into files and then loads them into a new database. With most DB's this is the traditional way to "compress" and restructure them. If I recall from doing it once (in the 4.0 to 5.0 upgrade?) it can take a fair bit of time. (days?) for large databases. Also, there is not much "deleting" available in Vantage, anything with a reference to it tends to stay there forever. But reloading could make thing run a bit faster.

For any of you still on 3.0 or 4.0, I just confirmed that those Vantage
versions using Progress prior to 9.1c will not allow file sizes of over 2.0
GB.
Now my next question. I will have time to upgrade (sooner than later) but
are progress db's like Exchange DB, once expanded they stay that size?
Will they shrink if non-used data is deleted? Can they be compressed, or
reduced?
TIA.

Cliff,
Thanks. From the looks of an earlier post, it looks like I had better rush
up my upgrade to 6.1 and 8.0. From what I just read in another post, 4.0
will not allow db files over 2.0 GB. If I understand that post correctly,
releases prior to 9.1C will not go above 2.0 GB. I guess it is good I got
an early warning!
