Eric,

I am also interested in the touch screens. Can you offer any more info on
where to find
this monitor?

We are looking to purchase a touch screen so that we can start collecting
data for our production hours. I am looking for recommendations on touch
screens that you are using and also some advise on how to get started with
the process. We just purchased a data collection user for Vantage but I need
specifics for getting the actual process started.

Also, we are in the beginning stages of Direct Deposit and I was informed
that Vantage doesn't have a Direct Deposit module. My question is how are
you going about getting the data exported so that it can be transferred to
the bank. Are you using deductions? How are checks printed? Are they printed
with 0 amounts? Or blank pieces of paper? Any help with this matter would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lori,

We were going to buy touch screens at first, but Epicor and a current
Vantage touch screen user told us we would be better off not using them.
The Vantage user said the screens are more expensive and touch pens need
replacing periodically. We went with just standard PCs and they have
worked just fine.

Steve,

How do your employees clock into jobs with a PC rather than a touch screen?

Lori,

We have one data collection station with a lite pen-it uses a regular
monitor, but I've phased out two others as the systems were replaced. We
use regular PCs with a mouse-the lite pens are expensive to replace, a mouse
is $4.95. We are mainly a machine shop, lots of oil and metal shavings.
This works fine for us.

We had used the light pens to begin with but had lots of problems. We use
standard PCs with keyboard and mouse and they work fine.
Vantage has an electronic payment deduction for direct deposit. We have
used it since it became available and it works great. Our bank has a web
page that can import the file Vantage payroll creates. We print the void
checks on plain paper to provide the employee their "stub".

Lori,

We use touch-screens on the shop floor (not the variety that
use a pen, but finger-touch). They work very well. I bought
ours direct from MicroTouch in Georgia. We were using mouse/
keyboard, but I was replacing them about every four months.

We also use direct deposit. We've set up a deduction in P/R
for direct deposit employees of 100% of net. When you run
checks, you're prompted for a filename for text output.
Vantage then prints all checks, with the dd checks being void
/ $0. The text file that is output contains all the necessary
dd info.

We run a program called PCClear, provided by our bank. I
created an import "map" for the Vantage output file, which is
read by PCClear and then transmitted to our bank.

We've been doing this with Vantage 3.0 and 4.0 with no
problems. Our P/R clerk is very much "repetitive task
oriented", and so far she has been able to handle this process
well.

have fun,
John

Lori,

They use a mouse and/or the keyboard. It can be done only using a
mouse, but we use both. Some feel more comfortable with one or the
other. Also we use the keyboards when supervisors or office personnel
want to access Vantage, or other data or drawings while in the shop.
We haven't had any problems. Our shop is pretty dirty and we enclosed
our four labor data collection stations in semi-dust-proof modules.

I use the Magic touch screen no pens needed you just use your finger tips
and that is all. It works well and only runs 150 dollars or so for a 15 inch
monitor size.

Lori,
We started with touch screens about three years ago and found the shop
going to the mouse and keyboard, so replaced them with regular monitors as
they wore out. They were not worth the cost. The shop punches in and out
of the jobs they are working on using the keyboard. We were pleasantly
surprised at how quickly they caught on.
We have also used direct deposit for about 15 months. It is wonderful!
Our bank provided us with the mapping necessary for information transfer.
Out of 105 employees, we have about 95 that use direct deposit. We have
never had a problem. We allow each employee to designate up to three
accounts/financial institutes that they want their checks split into. I
believe the most we have for any one person is two. We provide the
employee with a paper copy of the "check" with a zero value. The only ones
we ever hear grumbling from are those that still want their check in hand
and complain because the checks occasionally gets delayed in the mail.
You will love it once you get started. One of the direct benefits to me
personally is NOT signing 95 checks every two weeks!
