Dashboards from earlier versions not working

Good morning all,

I am far from a Dashboard expert, which could be why I don't know how to fix the
following problem.

I built a couple of simple Dashboards from BAQs several months ago.

However, we upgraded to Version 8.03.408B, and ever since then, they no longer
work.

I have paid in the past to have them "fixed", but I was just wondering if there
is an easy way to do it myself.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best regards,

Kerry Travis

And 1099s for all suppliers if you spent more than $600 in a year if
Congress doesn't repeal that this year. I wonder if companies will
start to spread around their spending to avoid the reporting
requirement?

Dina,
I'm assuming I'll have to manually update each W-2 to reflect the Company's health care amount. Similiar to what I have to do with our HSA contributions. It would be nice to be able to create or use a deduction field (like the 401K Company Contribution field) for that amount and have it pulled into the W-2, but I could see problems with that too, (employee status changes (+/- dependents), employees out for any # of pay periods, etc). So, updating the W-2 manually will probably be the simplest for us anyway ~ being less than 100 employees. That could be pretty major for large companies though.

I concur with Julie. Manually updating the W-2's is the way to go. You can
also buy inexpensive W-2 software at office supply companies and dump info
into it.

The 1099's are another story. Hopefully now that the cat is out of the bag
the business lobby will get this straightened out before our friends in
Washington turn this into a reporting nightmare.

Nightmare indeed! Can you imagine combing through every expense report
looking for matches on restaurants, book stores, etc. to check if the
combination of expense reports plus AP expenses have gone over $600?
Yikes!

czS0/1/0> Learn About the Latest Changes in 1099 Reporting

The Form 1099 reporting responsibilities for Accounts Payable departments
have grown significantly in the past few months. Tucked away in the
healthcare reform bill (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act),
signed into law on March 23, 2010, are new rules that require reporting of
goods, services and payments made to all corporations. Prior to this
legislation, businesses only had to report on "services" and corporations
were exempt from receiving a Form 1099.

The net result of all these changes is a significantly more complex and
burdensome tax reporting process for Accounts Payable departments. If you
are like most Accounts Payable professionals and are wondering what these
new regulations mean and how to address their compliance, you won't want to
miss this complimentary webcast session

We do have some time.

Beginning in January 2012, employers will basically have to issue 1099's to
all vendors with aggregate payments over $600. Sounds simple.

But consider a couple of examples.

. You purchase a laptop from Dell. You will have to get a W-9 from
Dell Corporate to determine the proper Name, FEIN, Address, etc. to be able
to send a properly completed 1099.

. You reimburse employees for travel expenses. They sometimes
charge airfare and hotels to their corporate American Express Card but when
AMEX is not taken (or they want frequent flier miles) they charge to their
personal credit card and submit expenses for reimbursement. How do we
capture aggregate payments for Delta, Avis, Hilton, AMEX, etc. Do wish issue
1099's to AMEX, vendors, employees?

What possibly can the IRS do with all these 1099's?

Maybe this is just a covert way to fund the US Postal Service.

As you can tell, this one really annoys me. Is Washington there because we
are here or vice versa? Similar to air traffic controllers who sometimes
have to be reminded that they exist because pilots are in the air, not the
other way round.

Off the soapbox now.

The new 1099 reporting for all purchases, etc. is set to begin in 2012, unless it is repealed.

A good cheap 1099 software program is from EG Systems. They have one program for 1099's and another for W-2s. It's about $150.

If anyone needs the link, send me an email off list. I have used this program at other companies and if the new regulation goes thru, I will use it here. We only have right now so I just do them manually.

;-)

I think they're looking for unreported income. If your 1099's add up
to more than the income you've reported...well then you got some
"splaining" to do.

Being from Chicago, we call it the "Al Capone" snare.

Mark "the-thumb(drive) W.
Undoubtedly that is what they are looking for. However, they won't find it this way. People and companies that are trying to hide income will deal in cash, not checks, credit cards, or other bank transfers. Cash is hard to trace in an audit. The other payment forms are not. Of course, all the non-cash payment receivers are the ones that are already reporting all their income. The ones that deal in cash only will not be receiving 1099's, and thus will not be found with this onerous legislation.

The IRS Taxpayers' Advocate, Nina Olson, agrees with you Thom:

http://www.webcpa.com/news/Expanded-1099-Requirements-Have-People-Worried-54896-1.html
...
“In particular, businesses will have to issue Forms 1099 for goods
purchased after 2011, regardless of the corporate form of the vendor,”
Olson stated. “The Office of the Taxpayer Advocate is concerned that
the new reporting burden, particularly as it falls on small
businesses, may turn out to be disproportionate as compared with any
resulting improvement in tax compliance.”
...

The Senate was not able to change the law, so we should start thinking
about how we might have to comply with it in a couple of years.

Mark W.
Thanks to all of you guys for the information and the links and these examples ~ this is hugh!
Our accounting manager was not aware of the depth of this requirement yet either ~ you really have to wonder if they
recognize the burden and hardships they are adding with these regulations. The more you think about how much is involved, the worse it gets.
Anyway, another reason I appreciate this group.
Thanks,
Julie
