What is this BAQ and Advanced Dashboard Student Manual for 8.0?

Thank you

Hello.

I am new to creating dashboards, but I have completed the BAQ and
Advanced Dashboard Student Manual for 8.0. I have gotten stuck on
something that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have created a
new tracker view for parts in stock. I have displayed the part number,
part description, part class, and part group fields. I have enabled
dashboard prompting through the customization tools dialog box. What I
am having trouble with is figuring out how to configure the part
description to allow a user to enter a piece of what the description
contains; much like you see in any standard search window in Vantage
where it says "Where part description contains". Can anyone explain to
me how to accomplish this?

Thanks.
When you are in customization of the Dashboard and for that field there is a
property called Dashboard Condition. You can choose MATCHES or START WITH
(among others). MATCHES you can use * (wildcard) anywhere in the search, so
*LOOKFORTHIS* and it will return STARTTOLOOKFORTHIS or LOOKFORTHISHERE and
any combinations thereof. STARTSWITH you can only use the * (wildcard) after
the test you type in, so *LOOKFORTHIS* will search for the "*LOOKFORTHIS"
then the wildcard but LOOKFORTHIS* searches for "LOOKFORTHIS" then the
wildcard.

Thanks Scott.
The matches option looks like it is almost what I'm looking for. My
plant manager gave me an example yesterday where he was searching for
any material that was 5" in diameter, so he entered 5" OD* in
the "Where description contains" box on the part tracker search.
There were results returned for this search. Somehow, however, I am
not able to get results to return on my dashboard when I try the same
thing. I have tried partial descriptions of other parts and have
gotten results, but this one thing keeps eluding me.

Hi Everyone,

I need help with a dashboard, I created a query that is like time phase.

I need a field in dashboard that will total the supplier qty and subtract
the demand and give me a true available total.

Example

Dear Ennio:

I don't think that is possible in a Dashboard. I believe that
Dashboards are only capable of summing, averaging, and counting data
in columns.

Any calculated fields that you want to appear on the Dashboard need
to be added to the underlying BAQ using the CALC button on the
Display Tab.

If the CALC field in the BAQ won't meet your needs, then another
option is to Right-Click anywhere in your Dashboard and Copy All data
and paste it into Excel to do extra calculations.

I'm new to Dashboards; perhaps someone else will have an alternate
suggestion for you.

Lynn
