We are just starting up cycle counting. What do you do with parts that the counters are not able to get to? I would like to just roll them over to be counted the next day, but I can’t find anything specific about how this should be handled. Thanks!
Hi Ryan,
In a past life, the Materials Manager’s cycle count program was to count everything active on the previous day and then add in parts that were due to be counted. He usually counted 80-120 parts every morning. If there were errors, they were most likely from transactions from the previous day and everyone’s memory was still good.
We would not use the Epicor selection routine but pasted in the parts that we wanted to count. You should be able to do the same for the parts you want to count the next day. Save them in a spreadsheet in the same format as the Tag screen and paste them when needed.
We are using the Epicor Random selection routine so I don’t really want to take on trying to manually assign the parts. If I just don’t enter a count for that tag I think it will just stay open and I can enter it the next day, correct? Is there a downside to leaving the part “frozen” for a day?
You can continue to use the random selection process. The point is, you are free to add/remove tags until you start the count and items are frozen.
From my experience, you can only have one count going on at a time (in the same warehouse). So, I don’t believe that you can leave one part “frozen” and start another count. The count is all posted at once and all parts will be frozen until you post. The downside of not posting is that you cannot start another count.
I think you can delete or void that tag and it should pop back up on the next cycle count depending on your ABC code values on your parts in that warehouse.
