Customer Part Cross Reference

Since it only requires the two fields below, it also sounds like it could be a candidate for an updateable dashboard?

I use it for all orders - it's a pretty handle reference tool. It also
greatly minimizes order entry error if you have a lot of similar internal
part #'s for a customer.

Some of our sales people would like something in vantage so that when a
customer calls in saying he wants 12345(their part number) they can
type it in and see what our part number is for that. I would probably
also want to launch like a part tracker from that, prices, on hand qty
and other things like that. I know i can do this type of thing in
crystal reports, with the exception of launching part tracker. However,
i would be looking to do it with in vantage so it isnt to many steps
while the customer is on the phone. I also know there is the price
list, however they say this is not quick enough when they are looking
for several parts. Does anyone know of a way to do this.

We have a similar but slightly different issue. Orderwise we use the customer's part number but in the plant everything is identified with the tooling set number. In effect this is our internal part number. We place this as the first 6 or 7 characters of the part description and it automatically becomes the "Search" term for the part (actually 8 characters are allowed for the search term). For all customer facing use of the description I trim everything up to and including the first space. This won't help the tracker part of the question but makes cross referencing a lot easier. Fortunately we can live within the 8 character limit (in 6.10 anyway).

For example customer part 00-03-1772 has a description of "A50022 418934 BRKT" and A50022 is the search term but on invoices the customer sees only "00-03-1772 418934 BRKT".

Might be a partial solution.

If you are on Vantage 8 you could create a query on the CustXPrt table.
Include the PartNum field and then you can launch the part tracker from
the query.

Bury any and all customer part numbers in the 2nd line of the part description. In part tracker, type the customer part number in the "Where description contains" window and voila!

I would use a Dashboard to display the results of the query, and a
Dashboard Tracker View to provide some query input boxes that you could
use to filter the dashboard's data. You can then right-click on the
displayed Part and get all of the context menus you would expect in
Vantage.



Setting this up is a little involved. The Epicor Tools User Guide
explains all. J

 Haven't done this myself but what about the substitute part tab in part entry?



"A list of part substitutions can be displayed when you enter sales orders and
purchase orders for this part. You can then choose to select a substitute part
from that list."

Does anyone know a way you can change all customers "EXTERNAL Document Settings" selecting in the customer part cross reference screen?
We are just starting to use that screen and need to change every customers setting and don't want to do it manually. Any thoughts?
